January is the perfect cozy time to spend quality time with your cat.

Cozying up with your cat

I find there are two ways to look at winter, either by wishing it away or by snuggling down and enjoying the calmer, slower rhythm it provides. And with that slower rhythm comes the opportunity to get some quality time in with your purrfect companion. After all, it is one of the most significant relationship in our lives and we need to make quality time for it! So here are a few simple things you can do to cherish that relationship :

1. Take your cat's example and relax.

Take an opportune afternoon moment when your cat in snoozing away on your bed to let the pressure go and just spontaneously cuddle with him. I am telling you that just five minutes of this cuddle can make the whole difference.

2. Light a scented candle while handing your kitty a catnip toy

Both of you can enjoy the pleasure of delicious smells in your own way. He can smell and play with his toy while you appreciate the enjoyable smell of your favorite scented candle. I recommend a woodsy fragrance for this time of year.

3. Enjoy a delighful fire with your loyal companion on your lap

Local restrictions permitting, light a blaze in your wood-burning stove or fireplace and find Mr or Mrs. Whiskers to enjoy it with you. For even more coziness, pull up a table and have a fireside cup of tea. I am telling you that your loyal companion will adore accompanying you in this warm hearted experience.

4. Read a book

If you want to take a break from petting his fluffiness, you might bring a book along - of course this has to be planned as not to move kitty when he is comfortably settled on your lap. Reading helps take your mind off of your stresses and calms your brain before sleep. Plus it keeps you from being on your phone or computer for a while, something we all truly need sometimes.

Remember to always follow your cat's example when it comes to relaxation ! He is after all probably the chillest family member.
